"But I still have one wish to make, a special one for you..."
For years, I have been making essays, poems, compositions, and illustrations about Christmas and sometimes, on how I celebrated it. Most of the time, I respond with the same answer: I have spent it the most joyfully as I can. You may want to ask why. The only answer that I will be giving is "Why not?". Every person has his own interpretation on what and how to celebrate Christmas, right? Christmas, for me, is just a reminder of the birth of Jesus. That is the main idea of the celebration. Many families, especially Filipinos, blend it with traditions and culture. For example, many families always have ham and quezo de bola every Christmas. I keep wondering if most of them actually like quezo de bola. These traditions were passed down from generation to generation. I guess Filipinos have a way to keep those traditions burning even if many problems partake in their lives. Well, it is not so surprising because of the fact that Filipinos are so hospitable and kind in many ways.
The expression, "You cannot find the true spirit of Christmas under a tree.", is absolutely true. Philippines is a developing country. Filipinos are becoming fast-paced by the minute. In these conditions, Filipinos still find time to celebrate traditionally. Including their day-time jobs, they still find time to attend and complete the Night Masses. This shows the Filipinos' undying faith. For the past months, I've been saving up for Christmas. I guess many of my friends did too. Gift-giving has been a "annual tradition" especially for high school students. We care less about what we would receive. We just receive it and thank the person wholeheartedly. The smallest gift can bring the biggest smile. We live on that saying. That is how I spent the whole Christmas season.
